The smiling factor

In public, Hungarians tend to behave reserved, cautious and skeptical.

In America: Children and Christians are expected to be happy and smiling

In Hungary: Children and Christians are expected to be serious and ‘deep’

Hungarians commonly mention that Americans are very friendly, but only to a
point. At first they greatly enjoy the American habit of smiling, but their
experience makes them wonder what is behind the smiles. Are they sincere?

Eye contact and staring. Impolite gestures

It is courteous to maintain a good eye-contact during a personal
    conversation.

It is not a major offense to study someone on the Metro. Americans often
mention that Hungarian "staring" makes them uncomfortable.

Personal space, distance - The Hungarian personal space bubble is
somewhat smaller than the American on, and a lot smaller, than that of the
Germans. How do people stand when they talk to one another?
Interpersonal distance is roughly about 15 to 25 inches (25 to 40 cm).

Touching – Hugs and kisses

Hungarians tend to be shy and reserved when it comes to expressing
positive feelings in relationships (verbally and in touching). Touching
another's back, shoulders or arms in a non-intimate relationship is generally
    considered offensive and felt uncomfortable.

Kiss-Kiss: as small children, Hungarians are taught this overly familiar type
of greeting and see nothing wrong with placing their lips on the cheeks of
    the most far-flung acquaintances.
