The Hungarian businessmen comes in different stripes and sizes: wealthy and
successful or failed and dirt poor; an entrepreneur out of necessity or else the founder of
a business empire; isolated from and suspicious of the world, or else sensitive to social
issues.

Doing "business" became a legitimate activity in Hungary with the collapse of
communism, but no sooner did this happen than it was also enveloped by mystique:
getting rich quick, legendary financial transactions and privatisations, skyrocketing
careers and of course underworld connections that cast a shadow over all of this. In
1990's Hungary, the "entrepreneur" appeared in the Hungarian public mind above all as a
convicted criminal, or, worse, as a corpse on a cobblestone street.
