Communications: Telephone, post,
internet, WiFi hotspots, TV, radio
Communications (Telephone, Post, Internet, TV, Radio) in Budapest, Hungary
Hungary’s telecommunications market has been liberalized, and there is now a choice of
service providers. Deutsche Telekom now operates the former state telephone company
MATAV. The telephone system is mainly digital, and services are efficient.

There are a number of high speed DSL internet service providers in Hungary, and access
is good and reasonably priced.

Mobile phone ownership is very high, and calling costs are relatively low. There are three
national networks, run by T-Mobile, Vodafone, and Pannon.

Local television channels including cable are all in Hungarian, but a wide selection of
English services are available via satellite TV from all over the world (including HBO,
Hallmark, Animal Planet, National Geographic, CNN, Sky, etc.)

Hungary’s postal system is adequate but relatively slow. Services are gradually
improving. Most post offices are open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.
