The National Museum (Nemzeti múzeum)
You can learn an outline of the Hungarian history
from the foundation up to today (current time).
The National Gallery (Nemzeti Galéria)
In the central part of the former royal residence,
the museum shows Hungarian fine art from the
10th century to present day. Largest collections
are: medieval and Renaissance stones, Gothic
wooden sculptures and panel paintings, late
Gothic winged altars, late Renaissance and
Baroque art, Hungarian painting and sculpture in
the 19 and 20th century.
The Museum of Fine Arts (Szépművészeti
Múzeum): is among largest public collections
(with i200 000exhibits) housing European
paintings of famous masters like Raphael,
Titian, Veronese, Rubens, El Greco (the second
largest Spanish collection of the world) etc.
Museum of Applied Arts (Iparművészeti
Múzeum): rich collection of Hungarian and
foreign applied art. (furniture, wall hangings,
carpets, costumes, glass-ware, ceramics,
goldsmith’s work etc).
Vasarely Museum: original works by the
Hungarian-born artist, the Father of Op Art.
